Person in Charge : Bill

Vino 1
La Caplana 2006
Gavi di Gavi
12% / $155 / Il Bel Paese

Vino 2
Prunotto 2006
Barbaresco
13.5% / $423 / Il Bel Paese

Euge Says:
An impromptu selection of Piedmont varietals by Bill.  Both wines were paired with Fontina cheese and salami.  Vino 1 was beautifully simple with a floral apricot nose.  Good acidity (cooler climate…), perfect after work drink.  Vino 2 had a nice spicy nose that gave me a good sense of security, very wholesome feeling for an alcoholic drink.  Robust with a bittersweet aftertaste.  A tinge of rubber/ medicinal herbaceous-ness.  Can’t say that it was a perfect match with the food though.

Vino 1
Coudoulet de Beaucastel 2006
Cotes-du-rhone
Mourvedre, Grenache, Counoise, Syrah
14% / $235 / Rare & Fine wines

Vino 2
Chateau de Beaucastel 2006
Chateauneuf-du-pape
Mourvedre, Grenache, Counoise, Syrah
14.5% / $690 / Rare & Fine wines

Bill says: Rhone wine was a great relief after many weeks of Bordeaux wines with too much oak and creaminess. Vino 1 offered high acidity, with muscular fruit and peppery spices. The tea/mineral quality added much complexity to the wine.
Vino 2 had abundant red fruit (strawberry) and is of a fresher style compare to Vino 1. At this price range, it had good length and delightful aftertaste, a good value buy.

Euge says: Vino 1 had a metallic fishy tint to it.  Both wines had good fruit and spice, Vino 2 having more of a creamy cake taste to it.  One note of advice: Rhone wine must not be drank with “lo sui”- marinated goose. Bleh.

Vino 1:

13.5% / $188 / Castello Del Vino

Vino 2:
Bava, Barolo di Castiglione Falletto Scarrone 2003

Tried two wines from different parts of Italy;  Abruzzo, west of Italy and Barolo, north of Italy. It would be better to drink them with food.

Vino 1
Chateau Morin 2006
Saint Estephe, cru bourgeois
12.5% / Relax shop / $2xx

Vino 2
Chateau d’Armailhac 2006
Pauillac, grand cru classe
13% / Relax shop / $4xx

Bill says: Vino 2 had plentiful of fruit, tannin, acidity and a bitter finish that was a bit too acute for me. On the other hand, Vino 2 had a warm and calm feeling to it, a creamy mushroom nose, taste of red fruit, black tea and medium acidity. A very easily drinkable wine. Even though it had a sweeter palette with less of a pronounced structure, the price was definitely appealing.

Euge says: Vino 1 was pleasant and good value.  Vino 2 was surprisingly better than my expectations.  The previous Chateau d’Armailhac vintages I had tasted were more herbaceous and bitter.  Maybe with ample breathing, the floral creamy characters were brought forth.  I like!
